Landing and getting to the hotel

From the plane to your room, calmly. 7 steps, with phrases in Chinese to show.

  1. Step 1

    Before you leave the plane

    Keep your passport, the arrival card you filled in online and your hotel address in Chinese at hand. It is in your kit, also offline.

  2. Step 2

    Passport control

    Join the foreigners line. If you are 14 to 70 they take your fingerprints at a machine. If asked, say you are a tourist and how many days you stay.

  3. Step 3

    Bags and exit

    Collect your bags and use the green channel if you have nothing to declare.

  4. Step 4

    Switch on your data

    Turn on your eSIM and data roaming. Check WhatsApp and Google open. If not, restart your phone.

  5. Step 5

    Check Alipay

    Open Alipay and check your card is still linked. You do not need to change money. If you want some cash, there are ATMs at the airport.

  6. Step 6

    From the airport to the hotel

    Three safe options. Your booked transfer, waiting with your name. The official taxi line, never someone offering a ride inside. Or DiDi from Alipay.

  7. Step 7

    At the hotel

    Reception asks for your passport to register you. It is normal and required. Ask for the hotel card, it helps you get back by taxi.
